The Rocket Boys...

Ever since this movie, my boys have been fascinated by rockets. Thanks to a dear friend, Mr. Thomas Ryan, the boys have been the grateful recipient of a number of rockets. Big ones, small ones. Shiny metallic ones. Red, blue and pink ones.

We even have the Porta-Pot Shot.

Who knew blowing things up could be such fun! The first few times were rather frustrating. The soy fields were incredibly high. Many rockets were "eaten" by those fields. Since the harvest, the remains of several rockets have been recovered.

Which refueled the boys' interest.

No more soy to contend with! The sky's the limit! Onward and upward!

Needless to say, yesterday was a "blast"...here are my very own Rocket Boys:

Read about the "real" Rocket Boys here.

Have you read Homer Hickam's memoirs, on which the movie was based? They are phenomenal. Really, I couldn't recommend them more highly.

Thank you for the recommendation, Julie! I've linked Mr. Hickam's website. I'm sure the boys will want to read them ASAP.
