Making memories...
The Perseid Meteor Shower. The Tears of St. Lawrence. Call it what you will, it was amazing.
This evening was the "peak" of the heavenly fireworks display, and it was quite lovely. The majority of our sightings took place after 10:30 p.m., with the best viewing in our own backyard.
We had traveled to a local park to meet a family friend and to share the experience in a group setting. The occasional streak across the sky was heralded by the shrieks from small children and "oooh's" and "aaaah's" from moms and dads.
Sometime after 11:00 p.m., my son Zachary and I sat beneath the stars at home, and watched the most incredible display. Electrifying streaks of light and vaporous trails lit the sky.
"Tomorrow, people will get up and read about this in the paper, or maybe see a few on the news," Zachary said, with a sigh. "Real life is so much better."
Amen, Zachary...amen! The time that it takes to load up six children, five blankets and two chairs is negligible compared to the memories that are being forged.

We laid a blanket in our backyard at about 10:30 and laid there staring up into the sky. It alwasy amazes me, that display of stars when there are no lights to mar the incredible view.
I think it was Emerson who said there is no better view than the one above our heads.
And the memories of each kid shouting out the count... that will be cherished always.
